James Cameron Vowed to Make Another Alita

James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez to Collaborate on Alita Sequel Following Avatar Sequel Completion

Since 2019, fans have wondered whether James Cameron planned a sequel to Alita: Battle Angel. In December, while speaking with Empire about Avatar: The Way of Water, Cameron thanked fans for their support of the first film and confirmed that he is considering an Alita sequel. He also stated that he promised Robert Rodriguez they would collaborate on another project—presumably Alita 2. They are also exploring options for a potential third movie, dependent on the second film's success. Because Cameron lives near Rodriguez, he will focus on Alita 2 now that work on the Avatar sequel is complete—welcome news for fans. Yukito Kishiro's original manga, Battle Angel Alita (GUNNM in Japan), ran from 1990 to 1995. This collaboration suggests a renewed commitment to the Alita franchise.
