Ubisoft Defends Anno 177 Amidst Quality Concerns over Loading Screen Image
In Assassin's Creed Unity, the highly anticipated "Pax Romana" intro sequence was criticized for being a mere loading screen. Similarly, in Anno 177, players quickly identified a loading screen image that appeared to be AI-generated, sparking immediate concern within the community. Ubisoft has faced scrutiny over the visuals in Anno 177. Players reported distorted faces, missing limbs, and disproportionate character models in the image. Fans expressed disappointment, expecting higher quality from a premium title. Ubisoft responded by stating that the image was a temporary visual that bypassed quality control and would be replaced in Patch 1.3. The company clarified that AI is used only for brainstorming and to accelerate certain development phases, not to replace artists. Ubisoft emphasized that Anno 177's development team is one of the largest in the franchise's history, dedicated to creating an ambitious and strikingly impressive game, and that this loading screen image does not reflect the final product. Ubisoft acknowledged that the image sparked debate within the gaming community.
Anno 177's AI-Generated Translations Sparking Player Concerns and Reputation Debate
The controversy extends beyond initial visual concerns. Since Steam began requiring disclosure of AI use, and following the emergence of the AI-generated loading screen, players are scrutinizing game details more closely. Some believe that Anno 177 contains awkward translations, particularly in German, suggesting AI involvement. These concerns are significant, as translation quality affects a large market for the series. This has fueled growing distrust, with players questioning subtle aspects like word choice, phrasing, and expressions. The debate around AI in games has thus expanded from technical considerations to issues of reputation and trust.
