Rockstar's UK Layoffs Stir Union Allegations Over GTA VI Delay and Anti-Union Practices
Following layoffs of approximately 30 UK-based employees and a reported delay in the release of Grand Theft Auto VI, Rockstar Games faces accusations of anti-union practices. The Independent Workers Union of Great Britain (IWGB) has characterized the situation as the "worst case of anti-union stuff in game history," alleging that the layoffs were intended to prevent unionization. In response, Rockstar Games claims the dismissed employees shared confidential information on a public forum. However, the IWGB asserts that the employees were only discussing working conditions and unionization in a private Discord channel, and that no confidential information was disclosed. Protests have occurred across the UK, including at the London headquarters of Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar Games' parent company. These protests have been peaceful and have not involved law enforcement. Rockstar Games previously faced criticism in 2018, prior to the release of Red Dead Redemption 2, regarding allegations of excessive work hours and abusive practices during the game's development.
