Free-to-Play Battlefield REDSEC Introduces Battle Royale on Californian Battlegrounds

Electronic Arts has released Battlefield Redsec, a free-to-play battle royale game for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, positioning it as a direct competitor to Call of Duty Warzone. The release coincides with Battlefield 6 Season 1, which introduces battles in Southern California. In Battlefield Redsec, 100 players compete on Fort Lyndon, the largest and most destructible map in Battlefield history, set against the backdrop of California's beaches and backyards. This battle royale mode combines elements of the Battlefield series with the battle royale format, challenging squads to secure victory by scavenging for high-quality gear and utilizing the environment for tactical advantage. Players can destroy parts of the environment, turning it into a dynamic weapon against their opponents. Battlefield Redsec also features Arena mode, in which eight teams of four compete in tournament-style, mission-based rounds lasting five minutes each. Additionally, Portal mode, similar to that in Battlefield 6, grants players control over the entire Fort Lyndon map and various modes, including Gauntlet, Battle Royale, and custom rule sets.

Battlefield REDSEC Unleashes Free Battle Royale and Squad-Based Arena Mode on Californian Battlegrounds

According to Byron Beede, General Manager of Battlefield, Battlefield 6 has already broken franchise records within two weeks of its release. "Today marks the launch of Battlefield Redsec, a new experience packing a Battle Royale mode made from the explosive core of our series, plus a squad-based Arena mode and even more ways to play with Portal. It’s got all that classic Battlefield chaos – destruction galore, intense firefights, vehicle mayhem – but wrapped up in a brand-new, free, massive experience for everyone." Battlefield 6 Season 1 will roll out content in three phases leading up to the holidays. The first phase, Rebel Operations, launched with the initial release, introducing three weapons, a new map called Campos Blackwell set in Southern California forests, and Impact Point, a 4v4 multiplayer mode centered on capturing a single point. Impact Point brings the tactical destruction and squad-based gameplay of Redsec to the multiplayer arena. Rebel Operations also includes a Battle Pass featuring 100 levels, six tracks, ten prestige levels, a BF Pro level, and premium store content.

Battlefield Season 1 Unleashes Substantial Content Plan with California Resistance and Winter Offensive

Vince Zampella, Executive Vice President, has stated that the scope of content represents the biggest game plan in Battlefield history. The planned content for Season 1 includes two further releases: California Resistance on November 18, and Winter Offensive on December 9. California Resistance will introduce a new map set in SoCal suburbs, along with Sabotage mode, where the objective is to destroy as many targets as possible before time runs out. Winter Offensive will deliver season-themed content. New maps, modes, weapons, and other content will continue to be released throughout the season, with all gameplay-affecting content available for free or unlockable through play. The release of Battlefield Redsec and the ongoing content plan for Battlefield 6 Season 1 demonstrate EA's commitment to expanding the Battlefield universe with substantial and continuous updates.
