Nikkei Asia reports that this has led to a significant reduction in planned production. Although initial sales in China were strong, Keybanc Capital Markets surveys indicate that interest in the iPhone 17 Air has waned across Asia and other markets. The survey of over 2,000 iPhone users revealed minimal interest in the ultrathin model, with most preferring classic or foldable designs. In response, Apple is shifting its focus to the more popular iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models. Mizuho Securities projects that Apple will cut iPhone 17 Air production by one million units while increasing production of the standard iPhone 17 by two million units. The standard iPhone 17 has seen a 14% increase in sales over last year's model in the U.S. and China, driven by its improved screen, increased storage, and new front camera—all offered at a comparable price. The iPhone 17 Pro Max also continues to perform well, with many U.S. customers upgrading from older models despite its higher price point. This mirrors Samsung's reaction to the underperforming Galaxy S25 Edge.
