Free-to-Play REDSEC Battle Royale in Battlefield 6 Launches Today, Season 1 and New Maps Debut Tomorrow

Battlefield 6’s new free-to-play battle royale mode, REDSEC, launched today in a surprise release. EA and Battlefield Studios announced the launch on Twitter, with a trailer premiering tomorrow. Insider ModernWarzone reported that REDSEC will feature duo and squad matches, accommodating teams of two or four players, for a total of 100 players per match. Battlefield 6's popularity since its early release this month is reportedly pressuring Microsoft and Activision, as EA aims to challenge Call of Duty: Warzone's dominance in the battle royale genre. Tomorrow also marks the beginning of Season 1, which will introduce new maps like Blackwell Ridge and Eastwood to Conquest mode. The Eastwood map, set in Southern California, has already received positive early impressions. The release of REDSEC over a month before the expected arrival of Black Ops 7 in November raises the question of whether it can sustain player interest in the long term.
