Uncharted Could Have an Unexpected Competitor No One Sees Coming

Predator Franchise Aims for Third-Person Action-Adventure Game Style like Uncharted or Assassin's Creed

In less than two weeks, the Predator franchise returns to theaters with Predator: Badlands, the latest film from director Dan Trachtenberg. Following the success of Prey, Trachtenberg hopes that his new movie will pave the way for a Predator adaptation akin to other third-person action-adventure games like Uncharted or Assassin's Creed. Unlike Killer of Killers, which he co-directed earlier this year, Trachtenberg is the sole director of Predator: Badlands. During the 2025 Fall Fan Fest, Trachtenberg told IGN that he is an avid gamer and would like to see Predator adapted into a third-person action-adventure game similar in style to Uncharted or Assassin's Creed. He believes an open-world Predator game would be enjoyable and hopes such a project materializes. Trachtenberg also revealed that he once designed a level for a Predator game as part of a contest hosted by Gamepro magazine. Inspired by Contra, his level design was ultimately not selected. This early experience fueled his passion for seeing the franchise realized in an immersive gaming experience.

Predator Franchise Expands to Action-Adventure with Trachtenberg's Vision for Badlands

During the conversation, Trachtenberg mentioned regretting that he had not played Predator: Concrete Jungle, the 2005 game developed by Eurocom; however, the game received generally unfavorable reviews. While a high-budget Predator action-adventure remains a popular concept among fans, players can currently enjoy Predator: Hunting Grounds, the asymmetrical multiplayer game developed by IllFonic in 2020. As Predator: Badlands prepares to debut, fans will be watching to see if Trachtenberg’s vision for the franchise extends beyond film and inspires new avenues for the Predator universe.
