Twitch CEO Apologizes Following Serious Incident at TwitchCon

Twitch CEO Addresses Mishandling of Emiru Incident at TwitchCon, Vows to Improve Safety Measures

Twitch CEO Dan Clancy acknowledged the company's mishandling of an incident involving streamer Emiru at TwitchCon San Diego on October 17, 2025. During a meet-and-greet, a fan reportedly grabbed Emiru's face and attempted to kiss her without consent. Clancy stated, "We screwed up, letting that happen and how we handled it afterwards." While Twitch initially claimed to have removed and banned the individual, Emiru reported that he simply walked away and was apprehended only after several hours. Attendees also stated that inadequate security measures made them feel unsafe. Following the incident, Clancy pledged a comprehensive review of TwitchCon's security protocols, including spatial organization and fan-creator meetups. He also announced forthcoming revisions to event and streaming guidelines, designed to improve transparency and prevent similar security breaches. In addition, Clancy stated that Twitch will re-evaluate the role of IRL streaming at TwitchCon to ensure it is implemented safely and effectively. These planned changes reflect Twitch's commitment to improving safety and security at future events.
