Microsoft Increases Price of Xbox Development Kit, Making Game Creation More Expensive for Developers

Microsoft Raises Xbox Dev Kit Price by 30%, Impacting Global Game Studios Amid Macroeconomic Conditions

Microsoft has increased the cost of its Xbox dev kits, the specialized tools studios use to create and test games for Xbox Series X and S consoles. The price has jumped by 30%, from $1,500 to $2,000. This change is already in effect, impacting studios in the US, Europe, and other regions. In a note sent to developers, which The Verge obtained, Microsoft attributed the hike to macroeconomic conditions. Microsoft also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting creators with top-notch tools. This adjustment follows several other recent price increases from Microsoft. In October, the company raised prices for both the Xbox Series X and S consoles in the United States, following earlier increases in Europe and other markets. Additionally, the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, which offers access to new releases on launch day, recently saw a global price increase of nearly 50%.
