Call of Duty at Xbox Leaves Me Extremely Concerned

Microsoft's Acquisition of Activision Causes Industry Veteran Glen Schofield Concern over Call of Duty Future

Glen Schofield, formerly a lead at Sledgehammer Games, has expressed significant concerns regarding Microsoft's acquisition of Activision. During an interview with Video Games Chronicle at Gamescom Asia, Schofield questioned whether Microsoft's operational approach would be conducive to the studios developing the popular first-person shooter series. His previous leadership roles included development for titles such as Modern Warfare 3 and Advanced Warfare. Schofield voiced doubts about Microsoft's corporate culture being suitable for maintaining the franchise's high standards. He cited the inconsistent performance of other Microsoft-owned series, Halo and Gears of War, as a worrying indicator. He also noted his apprehension that games, such as "Strike," tend to disappear following acquisitions by larger corporations. Schofield also pointed to the departure of key personnel from Sledgehammer Games, specifically Michael Condrey and David Vonderhaar. He emphasized their instrumental roles in the series' success and suggested that their absence could negatively impact future titles. Schofield opined that Sledgehammer's performance has declined since his departure, though he acknowledged Treyarch's continued delivery of quality games.
