Nobody Asked for Tron: Ares," Sources Remark in Hollywood

Disappointing Debut of Tron: Ares - $60M Earnings Raise Concerns for Disney's Future Investments

Disney's newest film, Tron: Ares, underperformed expectations, earning just over $60 million on its opening weekend. This lukewarm reception is particularly concerning given Disney's reported $180 million investment. Disney reportedly harbored concerns about the franchise's potential success even before casting Jared Leto as the lead. Adding to the pressure, Leto's recent box office performance, including Sony Pictures' Morbius, has raised questions about his status as a leading man in Hollywood. Despite this, sources close to the production assert that the film's outcome is not solely dependent on Leto. They maintain that a different lead actor would not have altered Tron: Ares' performance. The story for Tron: Ares initially had no plans for a fourth installment. Following this disappointing debut, Disney may now be poised to discontinue the Tron franchise altogether.
