Halo Art Director Leaves Studio Disgruntled After 17 Years

Departure of Glenn Israel from Halo Universe After 17 Years; Art Director Shares Insights on Industry and Future Projects

Glenn Israel, an Art Director, has announced his departure from the Halo universe after 17 years. Israel joined Bungie in 2008 and contributed to various teams, working as a concept artist and senior concept artist on games such as Halo 3: ODST. He confirmed his exit on LinkedIn, stating he is "done with the Halo universe for good" and adding, "After 17 years, I'm out." Israel also hinted at sharing more details later, "when it's safe to do so." Addressing a general industry sentiment, the post reminds that individuals maintain a choice even in challenging situations. It emphasizes that well-being, principles, or beliefs should not be compromised for job security or financial incentives, encouraging resilience, factual assessment, and self-reliance. Israel's hint fuels speculation that a contract clause may prevent him from speaking publicly about his departure until 2026. Meanwhile, 343 Industries, formerly known as Halo Studios, is preparing to showcase future projects at a panel during the World Halo Champs on October 24. Among the anticipated reveals is a new Halo title built with Unreal Engine 5.
