Assassin's Creed Shadows: "Awaji" DLC Begins with a Prince of Persia-Style 2D Sequence

Assassin's Creed Shadows: Hunt on Awaji - A 2.5D Narrative Adventure

Ubisoft is set to release the first downloadable content (DLC) for Assassin's Creed Shadows, titled "Hunt on Awaji." Developed by Ubisoft Bordeaux, this expansion offers approximately 10 hours of new gameplay, tasking players with pursuing Naoe and Yasuke across Awaji Island. Accessing this new area requires completion of the main game. The DLC distinguishes itself with a unique horizontal scrolling introductory sequence. This segment pays homage to titles like Prince of Persia, Assassin's Creed Chronicles, and Playdead's Limbo or Inside, representing a bold stylistic departure within an open-world series. Furthermore, its puppet theater-like visual style vividly brings Kimura Yukari's propaganda to life. Beyond its distinctive presentation and nostalgic tributes, this introductory sequence serves a crucial narrative purpose. It familiarizes players with Awaji Island, an independent location separate from the main map, and provides essential information regarding local affairs, Yukari's involvement, and clues concerning Naoe's missing mother. "Hunt on Awaji" innovates gameplay by altering combat mechanics in a 2.5D perspective, incorporating branching paths and interactive storytelling that adapts to player choices. This comprehensive content offers a compelling reason for players to revisit Assassin's Creed Shadows.
