Next Animal Crossing Game Rumored to Include Beloved QR Code Feature

Anticipated Animal Crossing Sequel Rumored to Resurrect Beloved QR Code Feature and Improve Connectivity

Nintendo's Direct on September 12 showcased upcoming titles for the Switch, but the new Animal Crossing game was absent. Despite its non-appearance, leaks have suggested a significant feature for the next installment: the return of popular QR codes. Animal Crossing: New Horizons, released in 2020, set a new benchmark for the series with innovative mechanics. It became a massive hit, providing a much-needed escape for many during global lockdowns. Since then, anticipation for the next game has grown, with fans eager for enhanced experiences, potentially leveraging improvements from the rumored Switch 2. Initial speculation pointed to a 2026 release for the sequel. However, this remains unconfirmed, especially given the game's absence from Nintendo's recent Direct broadcast. Leaker Nick Baker has reported that the upcoming Animal Crossing title may reintroduce QR codes. These codes were a cherished feature in previous games, allowing players to easily import community-created patterns. The return of this functionality has been well-received by fans, aligning with reports of better connectivity in the next game. Baker further suggested that if QR codes return for Animal Crossing, a similar mobile app deployment—potentially featuring QR codes—could also be implemented for The Legend of Zelda on the Switch 2.

Improved Connectivity and QR Code Return Rumored for Upcoming Animal Crossing Title (No Official Confirmation Yet)

As of now, Nintendo has not officially confirmed these rumored features or provided any details regarding the release timeline for the next Animal Crossing title.
