Project Zero 2 Crimson Butterfly Remake: A Chilling Redux of the Beloved Twin-Sister Tale
Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja have officially announced a remake of Project Zero 2: Crimson Butterfly, slated for an early 2026 release. The remake will launch on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. The original Project Zero 2: Crimson Butterfly, released in 2003 for the PlayStation 2, quickly achieved cult classic status. It gained renown for its creepy atmosphere, a compelling story centered on twin sisters Mio and Mayu Amakura, and the unique Camera Obscura feature, which players used to repel spirits. This remake introduces a comprehensive technical and playable update. Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja are implementing modernized graphics, sound, and controls to provide a smoother experience while retaining the original game's essence. They are also enhancing the series' iconic Camera Obscura for more intense exploration and encounters. The game will feature Japanese voice acting and multi-language text support, including French. The remake fully preserves the original's core narrative. Players will once again follow Mio and Mayu Amakura as memories guide them into a cursed village, where they become entangled in a haunting forbidden ritual.
