Modded Hardware Proprietor Ryan Daly Agrees to Pay $2 Million for Piracy-Enabling Nintendo Switch Sales
In July 2024, Nintendo filed a lawsuit against Ryan Daly, proprietor of the store Modded Hardware. Nintendo's lawsuit alleged Daly sold hacked Nintendo Switch consoles and devices that enabled users to play pirated games on standard hardware. Nintendo had previously attempted to resolve the issue directly with Daly, but his activities continued, prompting the company to initiate legal action, which included six specific complaints. Daly has now agreed to an out-of-court settlement, which includes paying Nintendo $2 million. As part of this agreement, he has committed to refraining from unauthorized modification of Nintendo consoles or assisting others in such activities. Should he violate these terms, he will face liability for any future piracy occurring on Nintendo's systems.
