Star Wars Outlaws Utilizes Key Card Due to Storage Speed Limitations on Nintendo Switch 2

Star Wars Outlaws on Nintendo Switch 2 Distributed via Game Key Card Due to Cartridge Speed Limitations

Star Wars Outlaws on Nintendo Switch 2 will be distributed via a Game Key Card due to limitations with the console's storage speed. Rob Bantin, audio architect at Ubisoft's Snowdrop engine, elaborated on this decision, stating that the Nintendo Switch 2's cartridge speed, while generally quick, is not fast enough to meet the game's demands. Bantin explained, "Snowdrop heavily relies on streaming for its open environments, and we found that Switch 2 cartridges just don't have the performance needed for our target quality." He suggested that if Star Wars Outlaws were developed specifically for the Nintendo Switch 2 from scratch, the situation would be different. However, the game was designed for the SSDs of its original platforms, with the Switch 2 version adapted later. Given these circumstances, Bantin believes the decision-makers made the correct choice. He further clarified that Nintendo is not to blame, as the company considered numerous factors when selecting components for their new console. According to Bantin, the Switch 2 is "a marvel in many aspects."
