Resident Evil 7’s Terrifying Experience Expands with First & Third-Person Perspectives in Requiem

Resident Evil 7, released on January 17, and Resident Evil Village (2021) both initially featured a first-person perspective. While this design aimed for heightened immersion, many players found Resident Evil 7 excessively frightening, to the point where some struggled to complete it or were hesitant to start. Capcom began to address this by introducing a third-person view in the Rose story expansion, which is now included in the game’s Gold Edition. Building on this, Capcom incorporated a third-person view into Resident Evil Re:Verse. Koshi Nakanishi, director of Resident Evil 7, is returning for Requiem and will include both first and third-person perspectives from the start. Nakanishi explained to GamesRadar his original intention for the first-person view in Resident Evil 7, stating, “I added it to make the game more immersive and terrifying than ever. I think most agree that it’s a super scary game, but maybe too scary for some. Some can’t handle it or don’t finish, or just won’t start. That’s something I want to fix.” He believes that in RE:Verse, offering players the option to switch to a third-person view can provide a less frightening experience, making the game more manageable should the first-person view feel too intense.
