Potential Anime Industry Burnout and Original Creativity Struggle Amidst Overwhelming Productions

In a recent discussion about their upcoming film, Fushigi no Kuni de Alice to Dive in Wonderland, scheduled for release on August 29 in Japan, Kenji Horikawa shared his concerns regarding the current state of the anime industry. He believes the proliferation of animated works may be diminishing enthusiasm for truly original creations. Horikawa noted that developing original content has become challenging due to skyrocketing anime production costs, which in turn make such projects riskier for investors. While understanding these economic pressures, he expressed a worry shared by other Japanese producers: that the overwhelming number of shows tailored to specific themes could lead to creator burnout and a decline in the ability to produce innovative works. Despite these industry challenges, P.A. Works, the studio behind Fushigi no Kuni de Alice to Dive in Wonderland, plans to release another original anime series this fall. Titled Dusk Beyond the End of the World, the series depicts a man waking up after 200 years to an unrecognizable world. This upcoming release reaffirms P.A. Works' continued commitment to original storytelling.
