People Can Fly, the folks who made games like Outriders and Bulletstorm, have scrapped two projects they were working on. One of them was supposed to be the next Outriders game, known internally as Project Gemini. It was reportedly in its motion capture (MOCAP) stage earlier this year, meaning it was still pretty early in development. They haven’t officially said why Outriders 2 got canceled, but a few sources are saying it came down to money troubles and communication problems with Square Enix, the game’s publisher. This wasn’t the only one; they also dropped Project Bifrost in June, a VR game that got shelved because an internal check showed it just wasn’t financially viable. These cancellations meant about 50 people lost their jobs. This comes after earlier layoffs that already hit at least 120 people by the end of 2024. The company’s going through some big changes, reshuffling its teams to work on the projects they still have going. Even with all these cuts and canceled games, People Can Fly is still working on at least four other titles. They’ve got Gears of War: EDay with Xbox Game Studios, plus they’re teaming up with others like Sony Interactive Entertainment (Project Delta) and Krafton (Project Echo), and there’s also the VR game Lost Rift, which they’re still developing.
