This is undoubtedly the last unannounced feature of the Nintendo Switch 2: the much-discussed ‘C Button’ has finally revealed its full capabilities. Contrary to speculation, ‘C’ stands for ‘Chat’, enabling users to communicate with friends and family. In reality, this feature is called GameChat and will allow players to stay connected during gameplay via voice and video. With the console’s built-in microphone, up to 12 players can engage in online voice chats, and by connecting the Nintendo Switch 2 camera (sold separately), up to four participants can turn on video to see each other while playing. Additionally, users have the option to share their screen with others, which could be useful for giving tips or monitoring progress.
To access the GameChat feature on the Nintendo Switch Online, a subscription will be required. However, Nintendo has announced that GameChat will be available without a subscription until the end of March 2026. After this date, a Nintendo Switch Online subscription will be necessary to continue using the feature. For parents’ peace of mind, Nintendo has implemented a parental control system. Children under 16 must obtain approval from their parent or guardian through the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app before accessing GameChat, ensuring secure use for younger users.
