Scalebound: Hideki Kamiya Just Proposed to Xbox to Restart Game Development, 8 Years After Cancellation

Hideki Kamiya is currently experiencing a period of nostalgia. In addition to successfully reviving his studio Clovers, with which he is working on the return of Okami, the Japanese game designer has expressed some emotions on social media. On Twitter, he posted a video sequence in which he watches with great nostalgia gameplay excerpts from Scalebound, a game that was to be released exclusively on Xbox One but was ultimately canceled. The reasons for the cancellation were never officially communicated, but according to insiders, the relationship between Kamiya and Microsoft deteriorated over time during production, as the American company wanted a certain direction while the Japanese creator held opposing views. As a result, after several years of teasing and presentations at E3, Scalebound was canceled in 2017.

Hideki Kamiya appears ready to move forward, as he proposed to Phil Spencer to restart the development of the game. “Let’s do it Phil!” are his words, retweeting a video where he expresses enthusiasm about seeing Scalebound images again on YouTube. Although the Japanese game designer did not tag Xbox’s boss in his post, he conveyed his joy at the prospect of resuming work in a positive mood, as indicated by the “:D” smiley he added to his message. Internet users quickly engaged with Phil Spencer, and now it remains to be seen if this could lead to a positive outcome…
