Among the numerous games unveiled during the State of Play event on February 12, 2025, Hell is Us made a brief appearance. We hadn’t heard from it since last September, but that has now been addressed with the release of a new trailer showcasing gameplay and confirming its launch date of September 4, 2025 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X. This new video also introduces the protagonist, Rémi, voiced by Elias Toufexis, who is known for his roles in shows such as Star Trek Discovery, Supernatural, Criminal Minds, The Expanse, among others. In the world of video games, however, Elias Toufexis is best recognized for his portrayal of Adam Jensen from the Deus Ex series. Jonathan Jacques-Belletête, the artistic and creative director on Hell is Us, previously worked with Elias Toufexis when he was in charge of artistic direction for a license.
For those who may have missed it, “Hell Is Us” is an action-adventure game from a third-person perspective that blends close combat, exploration, and intrigue, designed to not hold the player’s hand. Everything must be discovered instinctively and organically, with environments encouraging thought and observation. In “Hell Is Us,” players embody Rémi, the protagonist who seeks his origins in a country engulfed by civil war. The near-total self-sufficiency of this land conceals a heavy secret: the recent appearance of supernatural creatures reminiscent of the ancient stelae and monuments of the land.
