Among the licenses players would like to see return is the Resistance series, which was featured on PS3 and was a source of pride for Insomniac Games studio. In a recent interview with Kinda Funny Games, Ted Price, the former President of the studio who recently retired, admitted that Resistance 4 had been pitched to Sony Interactive Entertainment, but the publisher declined the offer.
I will share one (of secret, ndlr). Resistance 4. We presented that idea, and it had a wonderful concept, but in terms of timing and market opportunities, it did not work out. However, it was the result of the passion of many team members at Insomniac who wanted to extend the story further, as I believe Resistance established a really cool alternative historical foundation where anything could happen with the Chimera, including their origins and background.
Ted Price mentioned spending a significant amount of time shaping the story and considering the future direction of the series. “Personally, I adore this franchise,” he stated. “I was fortunate to have been the creative director for the first two Resistance games. And I remember many moments, both positive and negative, during development that taught us all valuable lessons about how we can succeed in challenging situations.”
The first Resistance game was released in 2006, while the last episode, Resistance 3, was released in 2011. The timing of Ted Price’s proposal to relaunch the franchise is unclear, but it is known that Sony Interactive Entertainment aims to revive older franchises that have been overlooked.
