At the Triple-I Initiative conference, Ubisoft announced the development of a new Prince of Persia game, just three months after the highly successful release of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. Interestingly, Ubisoft has partnered with Evil Empire, the creators of Dead Cells, to develop this project. Consequently, an action-platformer Rogue-lite in 2D is scheduled for imminent launch, with a formal announcement planned for May 14, 2024, on Steam Early Access. We can anticipate Evil Empire’s proficiency in 2D action-platformers integrated with the Prince of Persia setting and its hallmark abilities such as wall-running. The levels will be procedurally generated, a practice that has become increasingly prevalent in recent video games.
Immersive settings referencing Persia await players, from the Aqueduct to the Grand Academy, through the Wild Gardens. The Prince’s enemies will be diverse and varied, ranging from Huns to more mystical creatures. The story unfolds in a fictional rendition of Ctesiphon, the capital of the Persian Empire, which faces an invasion by an army of possessed soldiers led by the malevolent Hun chief, Nogai. Players will take on the role of the Prince, who is granted a mystical Bola that allows him to resurrect every time he meets his end. This magical artifact will encourage the Prince to take great risks, enhancing his acrobatic and combat skills and transforming him into an incredible warrior. Players must assist the Prince in exploring various biomes, mastering new weapons, equipping jewelry, upgrading gear at the Oasis, and gathering allies to save the city from destruction.
The Prince is equipped with a variety of weapons, including twin daggers, spears, heavy swords, and axes. Secondary equipment such as shields, bows, grappling hooks, and other items are also available. Players can combine the Prince’s actions to execute stylish and powerful combo moves, given that the Prince is capable of both kicking and punching. Ubisoft notes that the game’s soundtrack has been composed by ASADI, an American-Persian electronic music producer.
