Marvel’s Wolverine: Leaked Images of PS5 Exclusive Following Hack

Insomniac Games, known for developing the Ratchet & Clank series and PlayStation Spider-Man games, has recently become a victim of a significant cyber attack. The attackers have obtained access to personal documents of employees as well as images from the upcoming Wolverine game, which is slated for release on PS5 in 2024 or 2025. To demonstrate their intent, the hackers have released two screenshots of the Wolverine game, offering a preview of its anticipated visuals.

Insomniac Games has fallen victim to a hacking incident, as reported by the Australian publication Cyber Daily just a few hours ago. The group responsible for this breach is Rhysida, which is seeking a ransom of $2 million to prevent the release of sensitive information they have obtained. Insomniac Games has been given seven days to comply with the demand and pay the sum or face the risk of having confidential data leaked online, including details about their upcoming Wolverine game currently in development. This anticipated title from Insomniac Games is scheduled for launch on PS5 between 2024 and 2025. The announcement was made during a PlayStation Showcase in September 2021, with no updates provided since then. Meanwhile, the studio has released Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which has received positive reviews.

Two screenshots have been revealed by the group Rhysida, which I intentionally blurred. What can be shared is that the game appears to be highly promising. Up until now, there was uncertainty about the structure or formula for this modern adaptation of Wolverine. It seems Insomniac Games has chosen an action game style similar to a God of War reboot. The game will reportedly be a third-person action game with a very close camera angle focused on the character of Logan. Both images show our X-Men in civilian attire, identical to what was seen in the teaser – a red checkered shirt and a cowboy hat – walking around a town with a Western theme on Earth. In another image, Wolverine is depicted in his superhero outfit, helmet placed on the ground, resembling early comic book designs featuring yellow as well as significant brown elements. It is anticipated that Insomniac Games will personalize this costume to their preference, similar to how they tailored Spider-Man’s appearance in their games.

In the second image, our superhero is seen in a room containing elements that suggest the game will include investigative features. This indicates a diverse gameplay experience, combining violent combat, exploration, and investigation. It is unfortunate to learn about such details under these circumstances, but one thing is clear: the anticipation for this title has intensified with each new piece of information revealed. As a point of reference, the last Wolverine game was released in 2009 on PS3 and Xbox 360, titled ‘X-Men Origins Wolverine’ by Activision, which received a score of 14/20.

Regarding the hack itself, it involves scans of passports belonging to Insomniac employees, including at least one former employee who currently works for Disney after being terminated by the studio two months ago. Another personal document appears to belong to Yuri Lowenthal, the voice actor who voices Peter Parker in the original English version. The leaked materials also include internal emails and confidential documents with signatures. The Rhysida group has stated that Insomniac has seven days before they release all of the data but is currently auctioning off this information, starting at a bid of 50 bitcoins.

Here is what Rhysidia says: “With only 7 days to go, seize the opportunity to bid on exclusive, unique, and impressive data. Open your wallets and be ready to purchase exclusive data. We sell to only one hand, no resale, you will be the sole owner!”

The Rhysida group claims to have breached over 60 companies since its inception in May of this year and has been linked to attacks on the British Library and King Edward VII Hospital in London. This recent hack is reminiscent of incidents such as the one involving Naughty Dog in May 2020 with “The Last of Us Part II,” which led to sections of the game being spoiled, along with leaks related to the multiplayer component or even the 90 raw development videos of “GTA 6.” In any case, it is clear that such incidents rarely have positive outcomes and often result in legal consequences.
