The console is powered by an Amlogic A311D2NOD CPU, MailG52 MC4 GPU, and 16GB LPDDR4X RAM, with 64GB of SSD storage. Nex CEO David Lee has said that the idea for Nex Playground came from basketball training games that used mobile phone cameras. Recognizing the appeal of larger screens, they created a console specifically for living room play. Instead of selling games individually, Nex uses the Play Pass subscription service, offering access to the entire game library for three- or twelve-month periods. Lee believes this approach keeps players engaged and encourages creativity within the Nex team. Despite not rivaling the PS5 or Switch in total sales, the Nex Playground’s Black Friday performance against the Xbox suggests a market for different gaming experiences, demonstrating that families are open to accessible and inclusive products. Nex Playground wants to be a mainstay in family living rooms, not just a passing fad.
