Don’t Nod, makers of hits like Life Is Strange and others, are letting go of some staffers due to the flop of their latest games. The specific number isn’t out yet, but it’ll affect the Montreal office, which handles Lost Records: Bloom & Rage. Mathieu Tremblay from Don’t Nod Canada wrote, “I’m bummed to be part of another gaming industry layoff wave.” He’s proud of what his Montreal team accomplished with Lost Records: Bloom & Rage and releasing it was a miracle given the challenges. Wishing all those affected by this round of layoffs a speedy recovery – they’re amazing folks! QA lead Sandra Comier also announced her exit on LinkedIn. “Unfortunately, I’m part of the Don’tNod Montreal layoff and today’s my last day,” she said. “Over the past three years, I’ve grown a lot as a QA lead but also as part of an awesome QA team. I’ll always be proud of my colleagues.” Although Don’t Nod hasn’t spoken up on this yet, their higher-ups have admitted that Jusant, Banishers: Ghost of New Eden, and Lost Records: Bloom & Rage didn’t meet the expected commercial success.
Last year, Don’t Nod’s CEO, Oskar Guilbert, admitted that despite positive reviews for Jusant and Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, the game didn’t sell as well as we’d hoped, causing a dip in our 2024 semester results. This has us looking at all possible solutions when it comes to our script. We’re obviously bummed about our recent performance in such a tough and competitive market.
