Dragon Ball Sparking Zero Arrives on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 in 2025 with Joy-Con Action, Multiplayer Modes, and Free Upgrade for Switch 2 Owners

Dragon Ball Sparking Zero is slated for release on Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2 on November 14, 2025. Developers initially hinted at this multi-platform launch in July of the previous year. Developers Spike Chunsoft and publisher Bandai Namco recently released a “System” trailer for the Switch versions of Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, showcasing several key features. Players will be able to mimic iconic moves from Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball universe using Joy-Con motion sensors. The game will offer various modes, including a Custom Battle mode for creating personalized duels, and multiplayer options for up to six players online or locally, complete with split-screen battles. A notable feature for Nintendo players is the free upgrade available when transitioning from Nintendo Switch to Switch 2 for enhanced hardware. This upgrade, however, will limit multiplayer functionality on the original Switch console.

Dragon Ball Sparking Zero’s Performance Boost on Nintendo Switch 2025 and Switch 2 Upgrade Details

Regarding performance, the Nintendo Switch version of Dragon Ball Sparking Zero exhibits some technical tradeoffs, a common occurrence for third-party titles on the platform. It struggles to maintain a steady 30 frames per second (fps) and runs at 480p in handheld mode, increasing to 720p when docked. The Switch 2 version is expected to run at a dynamic 810p resolution at 30fps, in both handheld and docked configurations. Developers may implement further optimizations before or after its November 14, 2025, release date. This release on Nintendo platforms follows the game’s earlier launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, which is scheduled for October 11, 2024.
