Four years after the initial announcement of “Project 007”, IO Interactive has officially confirmed the title of their upcoming James Bond game, named 007 First Light. The Danish studio, known for its work on the Hitman series, confirms that this is a fresh origin story independent from previous films and actors who have portrayed Agent 007. IO Interactive presents this title as the beginning of a new video game franchise centered around a young, inexperienced, and evolving James Bond. The game will be played in third-person perspective and will focus on narrative, infiltration, and character development. At present, there is no release date announced, nor has any gameplay footage been released. The official announcement was accompanied by minimalist artwork featuring the iconic “007” logo alongside a silhouette that evokes James Bond’s early years at MI6.
This stance is part of IO Interactive’s broader strategy, which now includes publishing its own games as well as supporting third-party projects such as MindsEye, published by Build A Rocket Boy. The Danish publisher has promised to provide new information “by the end of the week,” likely in connection with the Summer Game Fest, whose opening ceremony will be hosted by Geoff Keighley on Friday, June 7. This event presents an ideal opportunity for IO Interactive to finally present a more concrete first trailer or even a glimpse of gameplay.
