According to Capcom, a secret laboratory deep within Kyoto is home to a shadowy figure named Dokyo, who concocts new Genma—evil spirits that serve as formidable adversaries. These grotesque creations include the Greater Nue, a lightning-wielding beast; Kogashira, humans infected with parasitic Genma that emit toxic gas clouds; and Chijiko, a grotesque mass of human faces with long-reaching tentacles. Protagonist Musashi Miyamoto wields a range of signature abilities to combat these threats. His offensive skills include Issen, a high-risk, high-reward counterattack that strikes enemies before they can land a hit. Musashi can also absorb the souls of defeated enemies, which, when timed correctly, provides life recovery, equipment upgrades, and new abilities. Defensively, he utilizes Dodge to reflect enemy attacks, including projectiles, and Parry. Well-timed parries can stun opponents, creating openings for counterattacks or allowing Musashi to toss enemies into environmental obstacles or other foes.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword Introduces Archery and Whirlwind Combat for 2026 Release

The game’s combat system is intense, featuring a temporary power called “State of Rage,” activated by dashes, and powerful Blue Soul special attacks. Beyond traditional swordplay, the latest trailer also highlighted additional combat options, such as archery and a dual-blade weapon with a whirlwind attack. Onimusha: Way of the Sword is set to launch in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
