Released on its official release day with significant challenges, La Quimera (the first project from Reburn Studio) is now available in early access at a price of €29.99. Initially scheduled for April 25, 2025, La Quimera had attracted attention due to its development team, consisting of former core members of 4A Games (Metro Exodus). The game’s context also generated considerable discussion, as it is set in a dystopian South America and offers a visual style reminiscent of both Crysis and Far Cry, with elements of local folklore. On the surface, everything seemed promising: cooperative gameplay, an in-house engine, and post-apocalyptic DNA inherited from Metro Exodus. However, this vision soon faced challenges.
A few hours before its release, the game was unexpectedly removed from platforms without clear communication, raising numerous questions. Several critics, bound by non-disclosure agreements but having already published reviews, had pointed out issues with an unfinished product: performance problems, poorly mixed sound, missing narration, uneven pacing, and technical instability on certain configurations. Under pressure, Reburn decided to adopt a cautious approach: a limited early access release launched on May 6th. Currently, La Quimera is available for €29.99 and includes the first four levels of a solo or cooperative campaign, estimated to take five hours to complete. The studio plans to enhance this foundation over an 18-month period. In a statement, developers explained their intention to “redo everything” during this timeframe: integrating non-player characters into gameplay, refining level design, improving progression curves, adjusting narrative pacing, and balancing the overall experience. The game’s price will gradually increase as new content is added, Reburn warns, while promising transparency throughout its development process. We conclude with the launch trailer, which offers a comprehensive preview.
