Sony continues to enhance the experience for PlayStation 5 owners with a significant new firmware update that introduces two major features: custom-tailored sound and an updated menu design, marking 30 years of the PlayStation brand. The first feature is “Advanced Audio Settings,” which aims to deepen audio immersion, particularly for players using headphones. This function provides a series of pre-set sound profiles to emphasize different audio elements according to user preferences, whether it’s thumping bass, clear dialogue, or listening to friends in voice chat.
Four profiles are available:
Boosted Graves: Ideal for feeling every explosion or roaring engine.
Amplified Voices: Because understanding what the NPC says to progress in the quest can sometimes be helpful.
Enhanced High Frequencies: Perfect for hearing the soft footsteps of a sneaky enemy in a dark corridor.
Amplified Weaknesses: For purists who do not want to miss any detail, including the rustle of a leaf.
Certainly, all aspects are customizable, including the left/right balance, to accommodate even the most discerning audiophiles. However, it is important to note that this feature is only available when using a headset connected via USB or jack. HDMI speakers are not supported for this functionality.
THE RETURN OF THE ICONS FROM THE PAST
Sony continues to leverage nostalgia with the recent PS5 firmware update, incorporating themes from throughout PlayStation’s 30-year history into the interface. Users can personalize their home screen with visuals representative of their preferred generation, whether it be PlayStation 1, PS2, PS3, or PS4. This update also includes meticulous sound design options and an interface reminiscent of Proust’s madeleine, clearly demonstrating Sony’s dedication to enhancing the gaming experience for fans across different eras.
