Mario Kart and Donkey Kong are present at the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, but another well-known character from the Nintendo lineup will also be in attendance. It is Kirby, whose upcoming new adventures were teased during the April 2nd, 2025 Nintendo Direct. The title is called “Kirby Air Riders,” and it is a project overseen by Masahiro Sakurai, the creator of the Super Smash Bros series, who returns to his roots as he began at Hal Laboratory working on the Kirby series. At this point, aside from a brief teaser video, little is known about the game. It is confirmed that “Kirby Air Riders” will be a sequel to “Kirby Air Ride,” which was released in 2003 for GameCube and will feature a racing game style akin to Mario Kart. There is no release date available at present; however, it has been disclosed that Studio 2 & Studio S, the division of Bandai Namco dedicated to Nintendo games, is responsible for developing the title.
