On April 2, 2025, during the Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo provided details about the Nintendo Switch 2, including its features, price, and release date. However, they also saved some announcements for later. One such announcement is the upcoming game Donkey Kong Bananza, scheduled to launch on July 17, 2025, approximately a month and a half after the console’s release, with expectations high for it to be one of summer’s standout titles. Donkey Kong Bananza is an exclusive new platformer developed specifically for Switch 2, offering players extensive exploration through various environments. In this game, our primate hero has taken up mining, utilizing his immense strength to demolish obstacles in his way. Players can dig tunnels and uncover hidden rooms while also discovering a variety of bonuses and treasures. The game’s 3D engine appears to be well-executed, allowing Donkey Kong to literally blow things apart and use chunks of rock as improvised weapons.
It is challenging not to notice similarities between “Donkey Kong Bananza” and the gameplay and universe of Super Mario Odyssey, with some internet users speculating that it could be the same development team. While Super Mario Odyssey was indeed released eight years ago, there remains a possibility that Nintendo may unveil a new 3D Super Mario game by the end of this year. Let us remain attentive for any further announcements.
