As always eager to unveil new video games, Microids announces a title set for 2025: “Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Nile,” following the release of “The Crime of the Orient Express” in September 2023. Once again, Microids Studio Lyon leads this investigative game, aiming to modernize the literary classic while remaining true to the original material. The story is set in 1970s Egypt, allowing Microids’ teams to explore artistic direction influenced by feminist movements, the rise of minority rights, and the liberalization of morals. This era also saw the disco boom, platform shoes, and psychedelic trends. To solve another heinous crime, players will once again board a vessel, with gameplay mechanics for two playable characters—Hercule Poirot on one side and Joanna Locke on the other—as seen in “The Crime of the Orient Express.”
Player feedback on “The Crime of the Orient Express,” where Hercule Poirot already shared the investigation with a second detective, Joanna Locke, has been valuable in shaping the development of “Death on the Nile.” We’ve increased the difficulty by incorporating more complex puzzles and offering greater freedom in investigative progression. Furthermore, the adventure intertwines Hercule Poirot’s and Jane Royce’s narratives even more closely, a new character introduced to the game. David Chomard, CEO of Microids Studio Lyon, confirms that this new investigation features a denser narrative with surprises, following the events of the book. “Death on the Nile” is set for release in 2025 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch.
