Tomorrow marks the 30th anniversary of the PlayStation brand, which was released in Japan on December 3, 1994. For several months, Sony Interactive Entertainment has been preparing for this day with plans to host an event. Despite much speculation, a simple yet nostalgic and emotionally moving video has been released. Set against The Cranberries’ cover of “Dreams,” the Japanese manufacturer invites viewers to revisit 30 years of emotions, highlighting themes such as love, friendship, family, courage, sacrifice, adventure, wonder, skills, teamwork, whimsy, celebration, fear, justice, honor, creativity, competition, rhythm, exploration, and many more. Each theme is paired with a relevant game, including titles like Horizon Forbidden West, Death Stranding, The Last of Us, God of War, Uncharted, Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, The Last Guardian, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Ghost of Tsushima, Gran Turismo 7, Call of Duty, EA SPORTS FC 25, Destiny 2, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Astro Bot, and numerous others.
In addition to the commemorative collector’s editions of these machines and other accessories for the 30th anniversary, Sony has also planned gifts for PlayStation Plus subscribers and PS5 owners who will see the PS1 startup screen. However, once in the console settings, users can select their preferred theme from options including PS1, PS2, PS3, or PS4. The menu, sounds, and overall atmosphere are customized according to the chosen era.
