Known for the series Endless Space and the game Humankind, French studio Amplitude was acquired by Japanese company SEGA in 2016. After eight years of collaboration, the French entity recently regained its independence for undisclosed reasons, facilitated by a takeover led by the entire management team along with a broad group of employees. The statement clarifies that relations with SEGA remain amicable, as the Japanese publisher will continue to support Amplitude’s desire to carry on their legacy of strategy 4X games.
Our studio is built upon iconic franchises, and our team is deeply committed to creating the best possible games. With our solid experience in strategy games and two new titles currently in development, we are confident in our ability to offer players exceptional experiences.
Given the circumstances, it is imperative for SEGA to reassess its structure, particularly within Europe. This restructuring follows the acquisition of Amplitude Studios, which aimed to expand the company’s reach to a wider audience. However, this goal did not fully align with the vision of Amplitude’s co-founders, Romain de Waubert and Mathieu Girard. They seek to restore their original mission by deepening connections with their community. We acknowledge the significance of this transition for all involved parties.
