Announced in 2019, it has already been five years since the anticipation for BioShock 4 began. Indeed, it’s been eleven years since the series was put on hold, not only due to the underwhelming sales of BioShock Infinite but also because its creator, Ken Levine, moved on to other projects. Despite rumors suggesting that BioShock 4 is already in its fourth reboot, recent information indicates that the project is still ongoing and developers are currently working to “staff up.” In a LinkedIn post, Jeff Spoonhower, Senior Cinematic Designer at Cloud Chamber studio, has shared a job offer with over thirty positions available, both in their US-based offices in Novato and in Montreal, Quebec. The studio is hiring programmers as well as artists specializing in 3D model creation or lighting management, level designers, narrative specialists, and combat system experts. These key positions indicate that development is far from complete.
After five years since its announcement in 2019, BioShock 4 remains unannounced as the series was put on hold eleven years ago due to the underperformance of BioShock Infinite and creator Ken Levine’s departure for new ventures. Rumors suggest that BioShock 4 is already undergoing its fourth reboot. Despite this, the project continues, with staffing efforts currently underway. Jeff Spoonhower, Senior Cinematic Designer at Cloud Chamber, recently posted a job listing on LinkedIn for over thirty positions, including programmers, 3D model creators, lighting specialists, level designers, narrative experts, and combat system developers. These hires indicate that development is far from completion. Meanwhile, Ken Levine and his game JUDAS, which carries the DNA of BioShock as its own creation, are unaffected by these developments, with JUDAS yet to have a release date.
