Nintendo’s latest console, the Switch 2, has set a new record, selling an impressive 6 million units in just seven weeks and making it the fastest-selling console ever. The company revealed these figures during its quarterly results presentation last Friday. The data also showed a strong attachment rate for software, with 96.7% of first-time Switch 2 buyers purchasing Mario Kart World alongside their console. Nintendo sold 5.63 million copies of Mario Kart World in June alone, closely trailing the 5.82 million Switch 2 units purchased in the same month. Overall, Nintendo sold 8.67 million Switch 2 games during the console’s debut month. For comparison, the PlayStation 5 sold 3.4 million units in its first month and 4.5 million within its initial seven weeks; however, supply constraints limited its launch sales, a problem that persisted for over a year. Nintendo aims to sell 15 million Switch 2 units before its fiscal year concludes in March 2026.

Nintendo Switch Sales Soar to 153.1 Million; Original Model Outperforms in June

Even with the Switch 2’s substantial launch, the original Switch continued to perform strongly, selling 980,000 units in June. This brought the console’s total sales volume to an impressive 153.1 million units, positioning it just behind the Nintendo DS, the best-selling console ever with 154 million units sold.
