If the Tokyo Game Show isn’t making waves with French media this year (except for some special cases), don’t worry! The big game event in Japan is still letting visitors try out a super cool playable demo of Final Fantasy XVII Rebirth, which is part two of the amazing remake of Final Fantasy VII from way back in 2020. Lucky us, Square Enix France saw that French journalists and content creators couldn’t make it to Tokyo, so they set up their very own gaming session at the Leviathan headquarters. We were among the chosen few who got to play, and we can’t wait to share our thoughts and show you some exclusive gameplay footage!
Imagine this: With his long, shimmering silver hair, Sephiroth turns heads everywhere he goes! And let me tell you, once he unsheathes his iconic Masamune sword, it’s game over for anyone who isn’t captivated by his coolness. Not only is he lightning-fast and cuts through enemies with ease, but every single strike from the controller feels like pure power in your hands. On top of that, when you fill up the ATB gauge (just press R1), Sephiroth lets loose with his awesome “Zanshin” and “Hell Gate” techniques. And guess what? He can counterattack anytime by hitting Square or even teleport behind an enemy using Rond! It’s enough to make anyone want to play as him for the entire game!
In 2023, if French media misses out on covering the Tokyo Game Show because of restrictions, they’ll definitely miss a chance to dive into “Final Fantasy XVII Rebirth,” the second part of the remake trilogy for Final Fantasy VII. Thankfully, Square Enix France hosted a super fun gaming session at their Leviathan premises for French journalists and content creators! The session was all about getting hands-on with Sephiroth, who totally steals the show with his amazing looks and killer moves that are just so much fun to control. His abilities like activating “Zanshin” and “Hell Gate” using R1, countering attacks with Square, or teleporting behind enemies with Rond make him an absolute joy to play throughout the game.To prove how much brighter this Rebirth will be compared to the gloomy environments of the FF VII Remake from three years ago, we got to explore more around Junon’s outskirts. It was like a breath of fresh air wandering freely and checking out all the cool spots on the map. We could hop onto Chocobos’ backs for some epic rides, and let me tell you, it’s visually stunning with tons of details that just make your jaw drop. You feel completely lost in this new world, and there’s a real sense of discovery every step of the way. Whether or not the game ends up being fully open-world, it already feels incredibly freeing to explore. Plus, Chocobos are still as comfy on land and in the skies, but guess what? They can now paddle through shallow waters too! And that’s just scratching the surface because there’s also another sea vehicle for even faster travel. This adds so many more ways to discover everything this game has to offer!
Yay! So excited about this second chapter of Final Fantasy XVII Rebirth! It’s going to be huge and packed with so much fun stuff. You’ll get to solve environmental puzzles, explore a semi-open world with tons of activities, and even craft potions and items! Plus, you can create three group configurations and switch between them on the fly—no need to go back to the main menu. And here’s the cool part: you can choose Fidelity mode for that stunning 4K at 30fps or Performance mode for a smoother 1080p at 60fps. The game is going to be massive too, clocking in at a whopping 150GB and coming on two discs! Mark your calendars for February 29, 2024, because the full review will drop then, but until then, keep an eye out for more playable sessions from Square Enix. Can’t wait to see everyone’s reactions!
