Ubisoft is shutting down its turn-based RPG, Champions Tactics, also known as Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles. The game’s servers will officially close on October 30th. The game launched in October 2025, although some reports suggest a 2024 release. In-app purchases have already been disabled, but players can continue to enjoy the game until its closure. Initially marketed as a Web3 competitive turn-based RPG, Champions Tactics allowed players to assemble teams of three fantasy characters whose hero units were NFTs. These NFTs could be bought, forged, and traded through a marketplace using cash or cryptocurrency shortly after launch, with some reportedly listed for over $63,000. However, Ubisoft began dismantling its Web3 features in May, freezing wallet functionality and closing its marketplace and Forge. Blockchain-linked champions were converted into standard in-game items, with VIP perks remaining intact. Despite these changes, the removal of NFT elements did not save the game. Champions Tactics is closing just two years after its launch. This shutdown follows the successful release of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced earlier in August 2026, a title that received critical acclaim and strong player engagement.

Ubisoft has not publicly disclosed player numbers or the specific reasons for the complete shutdown, despite no clear indication that live-service games typically shut down with a healthy player base and revenue. According to SteamDB data, Champions Tactics reached a peak of 1,443 concurrent players on its launch day. However, these numbers declined rapidly, with the game recently struggling to maintain more than ten concurrent players, a significant drop from its all-time peak of thirty-seven. Separately, Ubisoft previously attempted to introduce NFTs called Digits into Ghost Recon Breakpoint through its Ubisoft Quartz platform, but this was met with overwhelmingly negative player responses. The official Discord community confirmed the shutdown decision. While players can still access their accounts until October 30th, all in-game stores have been disabled to prevent further spending in a game that is about to cease operations.
