4A Games will present Metro 2039, the next title in the Metro franchise, during the Xbox First Look stream on Thursday, April 16, at 2 PM Brasilia time. Metro 2039 is the fourth main installment from 4A Games in the series based on Dmitry Glukhovsky’s novels, following Metro 2033 (2010), Metro: Last Light (2013), and Metro Exodus (2019). The games depict humanity’s struggle for survival after a nuclear disaster, primarily within Moscow’s metro tunnels, as well as their battles on the irradiated surface. Players can expect the series’ signature blend of immersive first-person shooter action, survival mechanics involving scarce resources, stealth encounters against humans and mutants, and a grim narrative inspired by Glukhovsky’s novels. The debut stream is expected to showcase story elements, setting details, and gameplay footage. According to the Xbox team, this highly anticipated title offers a sneak peek “straight from the source” into the next installment of the Metro series from 4A Games and Deep Silver. The Metro 2039 premiere will occur during the Xbox First Look stream on April 16, 2026, at 10 AM Pacific Time (PT), 1 PM Eastern Time (ET), and 6 PM British Summer Time (BST).

In anticipation of the reveal, a new teaser site for Metro 2039 is now live. In related news, 4A Games and Saber Interactive are collaborating on a new multiplayer game within the Metro universe, potentially marking the franchise’s first foray into multiplayer gaming. 4A Games has been developing the next Metro game for several years, with their experiences during the Russian invasion of Ukraine significantly shaping its direction. The studio, originally founded in Kyiv, Ukraine, and later relocated to Malta, has emphasized the importance of these real-world events on the game’s themes. The studio stated that the Metro series has always featured “an impactful, politically pacifist, and often emotional story,” and that these themes will continue through their collaboration with author and activist Dmitry Glukhovsky. They further noted that Glukhovsky, who has vocally opposed the war in Ukraine, made “a brave decision for any Russian, which led him to imprisonment (defiantly),” and that they are proud to have him as a “friend and cocreator as we jointly tell this next chapter of Metro, which has never been more relevant.”

Metro 2039 Game Showcase Unveiled on YouTube Premiere – Accessible for All on April 16, 2026

The first look at Metro 2039 will be available on YouTube Premiere on April 16, 2026, at 1 PM Eastern Time or 10 AM Pacific Time. This dedicated game showcase will include subtitles in multiple languages, American Sign Language (ASL), and audio descriptions to ensure accessibility for all viewers.
