Konami, Evil Empire Studios, and Motion Twin have released a new trailer for Castlevania: Belmonts Curse, the first game in the classic series since 2014. Konami commissioned Evil Empire Studios (The Rogue Prince of Persia) and Motion Twin (Dead Cells), both specializing in 2D platformers, to develop this revival of the series as a 2D action-adventure game. Konami announced the game at the Triple-i Initiative 2026 event. Set in 1499 Paris, Belmonts Curse is a sequel that arrives 23 years after Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. According to Konami’s official synopsis, Paris is overrun by monstrous creatures emerging from the shadows, and Sonia Belmont—a vampire hunter and, in this story, a successor to Trevor Belmont—must venture through fiery streets and an imposing castle to hunt them down. The new trailer highlights Sonia Belmont as the main character—a role she hasn’t played since her debut in the Game Boy game, Castlevania Legends—and also shows a boss battle against Joan of Arc.

Castlevania’s Thrilling Return: Versatile Weapons and New Adventure (2026)

The iconic series whip returns, now more versatile, allowing the protagonist to move freely and attack enemies in frenzied combat. In addition to the whip, players can wield other weapons like fists and a spear, as well as classic secondary weapons such as the cross boomerang. Castlevania: Belmonts Curse is not a roguelike or roguelite game, despite being co-developed by Motion Twin. Castlevania: Belmonts Curse will be released for Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam in 2026, but a specific release date has not yet been announced.
