Former Disney and TikTok executive Kevin Mayer has suggested that some Disney executives are considering acquiring Epic Games, but are waiting for the right opportunity. In a CNBC interview shared by Gamespot, Mayer stated that Disney’s new CEO, Josh D’Amaro, is a gaming enthusiast who will likely make bold moves to increase company revenue and stock value. Mayer noted that D’Amaro championed the company’s $1.5 billion investment in an Epic Games Fortnite project. Disney previously maintained a stronger gaming presence through its own studio projects and has also been linked to acquiring other major companies, including Electronic Arts. According to Mayer, one way for Disney to foster growth might be through gaming. He said that some Disney executives are advocating for the purchase of Epic Games, the creator of Fortnite and Unreal Engine.
