Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that the PS5 Pro is upgrading to PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) version 2.0. Developers are reporting significant visual improvements. According to Konami, the technology makes grass and shadows clearer than ever in Silent Hill f. Maciej Kurowski, Technical Director at BioWare, noted that the updated PSSR provides a noticeable boost to image quality in Dragon Age: The Veilguard without sacrificing performance. Tatu Aalto from Remedy Entertainment praised the efficient sampling without compromising image stability, and Ninja Theory highlighted the vivid particle effects. Naoki Hamaguchi, Director of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, stated that details like character hair are sharper, and image processing is smoother due to reduced flickering and afterimage issues. According to Sid Shuman of the PlayStation Blog, the new PS5 system software update, launching on March 17, 2026, includes PSSR 2.0. The update became available on March 16 at 10 a.m. Pacific time. To activate PSSR 2.0, users must first download the latest system software update. Once updated, navigate to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output and enable “Enhance PSSR Image Quality.” This ensures the latest version of PSSR is active for all supported games.
