The Galaxy S26 Ultra introduces the first integrated privacy screen for mobile devices. Developed by Samsung, this technology operates at the pixel level, blocking side-screen viewing to protect sensitive information in public environments like transportation, cafes, and shared offices. Unlike physical screen protectors, the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s privacy screen is native to the system, allowing users to partially activate it as needed. The privacy screen employs a “black matrix” (a pattern of tiny, donut-shaped holes) that covers some pixels. This narrows the light path, maintaining privacy when the screen is viewed from the sides. When activated, fewer pixels are lit, giving the screen a slightly more matte appearance compared to other phones. When deactivated, the screen maintains full image quality from any angle. Once enabled, the privacy screen limits side visibility in both portrait and landscape modes by controlling how pixels disperse light, restricting light emission to the sides, while ensuring the content remains clear for the user directly facing the screen.

Users can define activation conditions, such as automatic activation upon entering a PIN, pattern, or password, or opening user-selected apps in the feature settings. Users can also set the privacy screen level, choosing between partial or maximum privacy protection. The privacy screen can be toggled on or off via the Quick Panel by swiping down from the upper right corner of the screen and tapping the Privacy Display icon.
