One of Paramount+’s Biggest Premieres Edges Closer to the Streaming Service

Production has wrapped on The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, the upcoming animated film from Avatar Studios. Series co-creator Bryan Konietzko confirmed the film’s completion, marking the first official confirmation from the creative team. Originally titled Aang: The Last Airbender, the film was initially slated for theatrical release on October 10, 2025, before being moved to October 9, 2026. Those plans were canceled last December, and The Legend of Aang will now stream on Paramount+. Paramount+ announced a new Avatar TV show, Avatar: Seven Havens, at the same time as the decision to stream the film. Lauren Montgomery, one of the film’s co-directors alongside Steve Ahn and William Mata, shared on social media that the team had filmed the final scene, celebrating the end of a four-year journey. Dionne Quan, Michael Dante DiMartino, and Bryan Konietzko serve as executive producers. Post-production is currently underway in preparation for its release on Paramount+ on October 9, 2026. Montgomery stated that the decision to stream the film rather than release it theatrically does not reflect its quality, adding that it’s an extraordinary film worthy of the big screen.

The voice cast for The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender includes Eric Nam as Aang, Roman Zaragoza as Sokka, Jessica Matten as Katara, and Dionne Quan reprising her role as Toph. Steven Yeun voices Zuko. Dave Bautista, Ke Huy Quan, Dee Bradley Baker, Geraldine Viswanathan, and Taika Waititi are also part of the cast, though their roles have not yet been officially announced. Some sources suggest that Bautista will play the main villain. The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender marks Avatar Studios’ first film, serving as an animated sequel to The Last Airbender series, and is scheduled for release on Paramount+ on October 9, 2026.
