Pokémon Champions arrives on Nintendo Switch (compatible with Nintendo Switch 2) in April, signaling a new era for competitive Pokémon VGC. The Pokémon Company has announced that the first official Pokémon Champions tournament, Global Challenge 2026 I, will begin on May 14 under standard MA rules. The Pokémon Company will reveal these rules closer to the registration dates, which run from April 23 to May 4. Top Japanese participants in this online competition will earn entry into the Pokémon Japan Championships 2026, where they will compete for a spot at the Pokémon World Championships 2026 in San Francisco in August. All participants who complete at least three games will receive a Venusaur. The Pokémon Champs tourney includes Master-level divisions for both the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) and video games, plus junior and senior divisions, and Pokémon GO. Carson St. Deniz secured his first Regional title in the Masters Division on March 2, 2026. The Pokémon Champions tournament results from March 3–6 showed that Dragapult, Ogerpon, and Mewtwo dominated Tier 1, while Tier 4 featured decks with fewer samples, ranked by highest power. These results are expected to reshape Pokémon battle strategies.

Pokémon Champions Global Challenge 2026 Yokohama Tournament Heats Up

128 players will compete in Yokohama from June 6–7 in the Pokémon Champions tournament, having qualified through a Global Challenge and an online qualifier this May. The stage is set for intense competition.
