Following a pursuit in Ventura County, California, police discovered an unidentified substance in Britney Spears’ car during her arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence. The substance was collected and sent to a laboratory for analysis, according to multiple US media reports. California authorities confirmed Spears’ arrest for DUI after officers observed a black BMW convertible driving erratically on Wednesday, April 4. The car was reportedly weaving between lanes, braking suddenly, and operating without rear lights. Spears was booked on Thursday, April 5, and released a few hours later. She is scheduled to appear in court in May. After the traffic stop, authorities took Spears to a hospital for blood collection and toxicology testing, before transferring her to police custody. TMZ reports that Spears was taken into custody by the California Highway Patrol in Ventura County around 9:28 PM local time. Sources told TMZ that Spears was “tearful and emotional” during the arrest. Page Six reports that Spears’ manager, Cade Hudson, called the incident “unfortunate” in a statement.

Police Chase Ends, Unidentified Substance in Spears’ Car Sent for Testing

A 911 call detailing the hour-long police chase has been released. Authorities requested a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) to respond to the scene, after which Spears’ black BMW was towed to a garage in Thousand Oaks, California. The unidentified substance found in Spears’ car has been sent to a lab for testing, according to Connor Surmonte, reporting for Page Six. The identity of the substance has not yet been disclosed. Spears’ representatives have classified the incident as “unforgivable.” This week, Spears deactivated her Instagram account again.
